Indianapolis, IN (April 23, 2025) – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractor Milestone Contractors, L.P., will begin construction on I-65 Safety and Efficiency, a project to improve safety and traffic flow on the southeast side of Indianapolis. The project entails added capacity, bridge improvements including a new Hanna Avenue bridge, pavement patching and resurfacing, drainage work, and sidewalk improvements. The five-mile corridor stretches from north of the I-465 interchange to just south of the I-65/I-70 overpass. Construction is expected to last two years.
Overnight lane and ramp closures are scheduled to begin on or after Friday, April 25, to allow crews to install barrier wall and adjust pavement markings.
The ramp from westbound I-465 to northbound I-65 is expected to close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday, April 25, and Monday, April 28. During the closure, traffic will be detoured to the southbound I-65 ramp, where they can turn around at Southport Road to access northbound I-65.
Additional restrictions are expected next week.

- Northbound I-65 between Naomi and Morris Streets, reduced to one lane (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.)
Thursday, May 1
- Ramp from Keystone Avenue to southbound I-65 closed (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.)
Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2
- Ramp from northbound I-65 to Morris/Prospect Street closed (Exit 110A) (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.)
All closures are weather dependent. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes, when possible.
Construction Speed Limit
The construction zone speed limit will begin this week on I-65. A reduced speed of 45 mph will be in place for the duration of I-65 Safety and Efficiency work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
