Improvements
I-65 Safety and Efficiency corridor improvements will extend the life of existing pavement while improving traffic flow and safety.

- Replacement of Hanna Avenue bridge
- Pavement patching and resurfacing
- Sidewalk improvements
- Drainage improvements
- Construction is expected to begin in spring 2025 and last two years.
Added Capacity
The project includes an additional lane in both directions from I-465 to I-70, with four lanes in each direction when construction is complete. Most of the widening utilizes the existing inside shoulder, with the southern third of the project widening to the outside.

BRIDGE IMPROVEMENTS
- The I-65 northbound bridges at three locations are being widened.
- They are Naomi Street, Pleasant Run, and Morris/Prospect.
- The wider bridges will accommodate a fourth travel lane.
- Improvements will extend the life of all the bridges.
- Overlay work will extend the life of the other 18 bridges along the corridor.
BRIDGE IMPROVEMENTS AT MORRIS/PROSPECT
- The I-65 northbound bridge over Morris/Prospect is being rehabilitated.
- The project includes replacing the bridge superstructure.
- New deck and beams will be installed for the bridge.
- The Morris/Prospect bridge over I-65 is also being rehabilitated.
- The rehabilitation will accommodate 10-foot sidewalks on both sides.
Sidewalk Improvements
- Lighting is being updated.
- New sidewalks are being added.
- Some sidewalks and curbs are being replaced.
- Broken and cracked sidewalk panels will be replaced.
- Sidewalks are being leveled, where needed.
- ADA updates are planned throughout the corridor.
I-65/I-70 PAVEMENT REPLACEMENT
- Pavement is being replaced from just north of the Fletcher Avenue overpass to just south of the I-65/I-70 overpass.
- The closed ramp between Virginia Avenue and Calvary Street will be removed and upgraded.
- The storm sewer system is being replaced.
- The Weight in Motion (WIM) station is being replaced.
- Work is expected to begin in spring 2026 and last one construction season.
ABANDONED RAILROAD BRIDGE REMOVAL
- The abandoned railroad bridge north of Fletcher Avenue over I-65/I-70 is being removed.
- Work is expected to begin in spring 2026 and last one construction season.
