NOTE: All work described below has been postponed as of Monday, March 16. The Project Team is coordinating a revised schedule and will share updates when available.
Drivers should expect traffic changes and overnight work next week on I-65 near downtown and southeast Indianapolis as part of the I-65 Safety and Efficiency project. Crews will be installing pavement markings and shifting traffic.
Lane Restrictions
Lane restrictions are scheduled to begin next week on I-65/I-70 between New York Street and the I-65/I-70 interchange south of downtown:
- Northbound I-65 reduced to three lanes on or after Monday, March 16
- Southbound I-65 reduced to two lanes on or after Tuesday, March 17
- Southbound I-65/I-70 collector distributor reduced to one lane on or after Wednesday, March 18
Lane restrictions are expected to continue this spring/summer as crews replace pavement on I-65/I-70 in the area.
Ramp Closures
As a reminder, two ramp closures are scheduled to begin next week:
- Ramp from Calvary Street to northbound I-65 to close around 9 p.m. on or after Monday, March 16
- Ramp from Washington Street to southbound I-65 to close around 9 p.m. on or after Wednesday, March 18
Both ramps are expected to reopen late this fall.

Overnight Closures (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.)
Monday, March 16
- Ramp from eastbound I-70 to northbound I-65 closed
- Northbound I-65 reduced to one lane between Washington Street and the I-65/I-70 interchange south of downtown
Tuesday, March 17
- Southbound I-65 reduced to one lane between Washington Street and the I-65/I-70 interchange south of downtown
Wednesday, March 18
- Southbound I-65/I-70 collector distributor closed between Washington Street and Fletcher Avenue
Thursday, March 19
- Raymond Street entrance ramps to southbound I-65 closed
- Ramp from southbound I-65 to Keystone Avenue closed
- Southbound I-65 reduced to one lane between Raymond Street and Keystone Avenue
Friday, March 20
- Ramp from eastbound I-70 to southbound I-65 closed (beginning at midnight)
- Raymond Street ramps to and from southbound I-65 closed
- Ramp from Morris and Prospect streets to southbound I-65 closed
- Southbound I-65 reduced to one lane between the I-65/I-70 interchange south of downtown and Raymond Street
Drivers should plan ahead and consider alternate routes to avoid delays.
All restrictions are weather dependent. Actual dates and anticipated work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances occur.
Construction Speed Limit
The construction zone speed limit remains active on I-65. A reduced speed of 45 mph is in place for the duration of I-65 Safety and Efficiency work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
