Overnight lane restrictions on I-65 this week

Overnight lane closures are scheduled this week on I-65 on the southeast side of Indianapolis to allow crews to install barrier wall and place pavement markings.

Overnight Lane Restrictions

Tuesday, May 27

  • Northbound I-65 reduced to two lanes between Southport Road and I-465

Wednesday, May 28

  • Southbound I-65 reduced to one lane between Keystone Avenue and I-465

Thursday, May 29

  • Southbound I-65 reduced to one lane between Morris Street and Raymond Street

All restrictions are planned between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. and are weather dependent. Drivers should plan ahead and consider alternate routes to avoid delays.

Upcoming Closures

The Hanna Avenue overpass bridge is scheduled to close on or after Monday, June 16, for replacement. Hanna Avenue will close between Brickenwood Trace and Lasalle Street. The new bridge is expected to open late this fall and will include a six-foot sidewalk on the north side of the bridge and a 10-foot shared-use path on the south side. The shared-use path can accommodate a future pedestrian pathway.

Full weekend closures of I-65 in the project area are expected in June and July to complete drainage improvements.  The closures will extend from the I-65/I-70 interchange to the I-65/I-465 interchange and will include all entrance ramps in the area.

The first weekend closure will impact southbound lanes and is scheduled from 9 p.m. on Friday, June 13, through 5 a.m. on Monday, June 16. Another southbound closure is scheduled for the weekend of June 20 through June 23.

Northbound closures are expected the weekends of June 27, July 11, July 18, and July 25. Reminders will be shared closer to date.

Construction Speed Limit Now Active
The construction zone speed limit is now active on I-65. A reduced speed of 45 mph is in place for the duration of I-65 Safety and Efficiency work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
