Overnight lane restrictions on I-65 this weekend

Crews are continuing to install barrier wall and place pavement markings on I-65 this weekend. Overnight lane restrictions are scheduled to accommodate the work.

Beginning on or after Thursday, June 5, northbound I-65 will be reduced to two lanes between I-465 and Morris Street and to one lane between Morris Street and Virginia Avenue. The one-lane restriction will remain in place through the end of this year, while the two-lane restriction will continue through late 2026.

Overnight Lane Restrictions

Friday, June 6

  • Northbound I-65 reduced to one lane between Troy Avenue and Raymond Street

Saturday, June 7

  • Northbound I-65 reduced to one lane between Raymond Street and Shelby Street

All restrictions are planned between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. and are weather dependent. Drivers should plan ahead and consider alternate routes to avoid delays.

Upcoming Closures – Hanna Avenue and I-65

The Hanna Avenue overpass bridge is scheduled to close on or after Monday, June 16. Hanna Avenue will close between Brickenwood Trace and Lasalle Street. The new bridge is expected to open late this fall and will include a six-foot sidewalk on the north side and a 10-foot shared-use path on the south side. The shared-use path can accommodate a future pedestrian pathway.

Full weekend closures of I-65 in the project area are expected in June and July to complete drainage improvements, including work on pipes and other infrastructure under the road. The closures will extend from the I-65/I-70 interchange to the I-65/I-465 interchange and will include all entrance ramps in the area.

Southbound lanes are scheduled to close from 9 p.m. on Friday, June 13, through 5 a.m. on Monday, June 16, and the weekend of June 20 through June 23.

Northbound closures are expected the weekends of June 27, July 11, July 18, and July 25. Reminders will be shared closer to date.

Construction Speed Limit Now Active
The construction zone speed limit is now active on I-65. A reduced speed of 45 mph is in place for the duration of I-65 Safety and Efficiency work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
