As a reminder, ramp closures are planned this weekend at the I-65/I-70 North Split interchange near downtown Indianapolis. The closures are needed so crews can finish removing the abandoned railroad bridge just north of Fletcher Avenue.
Ramps near the North Split are scheduled to close around 9 p.m. Friday, April 17, and reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, April 20:
- Ramp from westbound I-70 to local streets (Exit 83A) closed
- Ramp from southbound I-65 to local streets (Exit 111) closed
During the closure, drivers on westbound I-70 and southbound I-65 will not have access to these downtown streets via the southbound I-65 collector-distributor road:
- Michigan Street/New York Street
- Ohio Street
- Fletcher Avenue
Signage will be posted. Mainline I-65 southbound will remain open this weekend.
New traffic pattern near I-65/I-70 North Split begins Monday night
Drivers on westbound I-70 and southbound I-65 heading toward downtown Indianapolis will follow a new traffic pattern near the I-65/I-70 North Split interchange beginning at 9 p.m. on Monday, April 20.
Lane restrictions will be in place to allow for pavement replacement on I-65/I-70 between Washington Street and Fletcher Avenue.
Drivers can expect the following temporary changes beginning around 9 p.m. on Monday, April 20:
- Westbound I-70 traffic to use Exit 83A and follow the collector-distributor road to rejoin westbound I-70 at Fletcher Avenue
- Southbound I-65 reduced to one lane between Michigan Street and Fletcher Avenue
- Ramp from northbound I-65 to Morris Street and Prospect Street closed

The new traffic pattern is expected to remain in place through late summer. The Morris Street and Prospect Street ramp is closing for improvements and is expected to reopen in July.
Drivers should expect delays and seek alternate routes when possible. Actual dates and anticipated work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances occur.
Construction Speed Limit Active
The construction zone speed limit remains active on I-65. A reduced speed of 45 mph is in place for the duration of I-65 Safety and Efficiency work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
