Two ramp closures on the I-65 Safety and Efficiency corridor are expected to begin next week. The ramp from Washington Street to southbound I-65 and the ramp from Calvary Street to northbound I-65 are scheduled to close on or after Wednesday, March 18. Both ramps are expected to remain closed until late this fall.
Crews are reconstructing the Washington Street ramp. The Calvary Street ramp closure allows crews to safely build added travel lanes on I-65 using the outside shoulder this year.
Coming Soon: Weekend Closures on I-65
Crews will remove an abandoned railroad bridge near Fletcher Avenue and replace pavement on the north end of the corridor this spring. A series of weekend closures will be needed to safely remove the abandoned railroad bridge and prepare for pavement replacement work.
Northbound I-65 is expected to close between the I-65/I-70 interchange south of downtown and Washington Street from Friday, March 27 to Monday, March 30. Additional weekend closures are expected in April, including one closure of southbound I-65 and one closure of the southbound I-65/I-70 collector distributor (CD) road in the same area. Ramps in the corridor will also be impacted.
Actual dates and anticipated work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances occur. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes, when possible.
Construction Speed Limit Active
The construction zone speed limit remains active on I-65. A reduced speed of 45 mph is in place for the duration of I-65 Safety and Efficiency work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
